Lesson: NUMBERS

COUNTING AND NUMBERS.

This includes a variety of things which may include, counting numbers, time and months of the year. Like in other languages in Runyankore-Rukiga we also count from one to a hundred and beyond. They can be used to show the position, or plural of something. This can be done through use of tallies, abacus and many other ways while writing these numbers, we use a conjunction 'na'. eg ikumi na munaana 'eighteen'.

PERCENTAGE NUMBERS

A percentage number is a ratio which is represented by a fraction of 100. To find a percentage D%, of a number T, we can write it as 'D/100'xT. A symbol of percentage in Runyankore remains '%'' just like in English. Hence a percentage means a part per hundred. For example, they are mostly used to show the scores of students in class or to show how best someone has done something.

NUMBERS THAT SHOW POSITION

story of a man

It can also be used to determine someone’s position for example they can be used to determine the students positions in class. They can also be used in other fields such as in athletics, football matches, and many others. These numbers include 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th and they can run up to 100th.

These are numbers which show the fractions for certain numbers for example ½ ,1/4, and many other fractions. They can be used to show the number of things left or used. For example; John ate ½ of Jane’s mangoes but Joshua ate ¼ of Mikes mangoes and mike went to report Josh to the class teacher.
